Hawaii is my "other favorite place", especially Maui, where I lived for a while as a teenager, and the Big Island. Kauai is pretty special too. And Oahu, come to think of it. I've managed to get there, collectively, around ten times. It's a long trip, from anywhere, but it's worth it.

Most recently, a "Hunt for Lava" on the Big Island, followed by a week shooting an ad campaign for Hawaiian Tropic on Kauai.

These shots were taken somewhere along the NY, CT, MA border, at the southern end of the Berkshire Mountains, in 10 degrees (F) with a 20 to 30 mph wind.  What state was I even in?  But snow + barns = beauty.

These shots were taken during numerous trips to my brother's cabin in Greene County, NY.

Living in the NYC suburbs, there’s a great photographic subject a short train ride away.

A vacation with my wife in February. Temperatures in the 60s and low 70s, no crowds anywhere. Super friendly people. And beautiful landscapes and architecture.

I've spent most of my life on the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S., from Boston to to the Jersey Shore. This gallery features my favorite shots from the region, excluding NYC, which demanded its own gallery.

Bruges is a city where you can walk for hours without seeing any buildings less than a couple hundred years old, with many going back well beyond that. Brussels, while more modern overall, also has beautiful historic areas.

Three advertising shoots have taken me to Cape Town, one of the most geographically and culturally fascinating places on Earth.

A planning meeting in Dusseldorf, but with a couple of hours each night to wander around the old part of the city. All of these shots were taken with a 50mm, f1.8 lens.

I asked a Japanese friend what one city I should visit in Japan and he sent me to Kyoto. At this point I've had a chance to visit three times. It's a small city surrounded by green mountains with hundreds of ancient temples. Despite the Japanese reputation for reserve, people there have been very kind to me. Nikko is a much smaller mountain town with spectacular temples. Both are within a couple of hours of Tokyo on Japan's incredibly fast and reliable train system.

A three day Banana Boat shoot took me to Santiago and about two hours into "Los Andes."  Hot February sun, lots of grilled octopus, and real banana boats, going where they have no right to go. 

I don't know Spain well, but I've had the chance to visit Madrid, Barcelona and Segovia on business trips. I especially liked the winding streets of Barcelona, which are so narrow they felt more like paths than roads.

My first and only trip to the south of France. Another place where the best time to shoot is as darkness falls.

Miami Beach is great fun to shoot, especially as the sun starts to go down and the lights start to come on.

A print ad where the art director drew in palm trees and off we went to Puerto Rico.

Prague is a strange mix of very old buildings and young people, fascinating to walk through, with easy day-trips to ancient castles and cathedrals.

Two shoots, one to the South Island and the second to the North Island. Different worlds, both beautiful.

Amsterdam is one of those environments built by people that is still, nonetheless, incredibly beautiful.

Another family vacation: a place American Airlines would take us with frequent flyer miles!

My time here was short and largely confined to a conference room in a Marriott Hotel. So only a couple of shots.

Two absurdly short business trips to Sydney, but with a couple days of walking around time on my own dime.

Who knew France was so close to home?

The entire city of Los Angeles feels like a set where anything could happen to anyone and it might, or might not, matter. San Diego is its funky Southern cousin. And San Francisco is a place where buildings meet geography in fascinating ways. 

Work also brought me on a couple of occasions to Buenos Aires, which struck me as a European city that time forgot.

I was still using a Sony point-and-shoot when I had a chance to take my family to beautiful St. John. Hope to go back some day with the equipment I have now.
